Understanding Legal Malpractice in Georgia
Nothing is more important than having a lawyer who has the experience, understanding, and trustworthiness to get the job done right, but many are not so lucky. Legal malpractice can occur for many reasons, but often simply results from lack of communication or improper handling of correspondence. In Georgia, malpractice can also result from the failure of a party to secure representation for timely hearings, what we refer to as a failure to calendar. A comprehensive approach to legal malpractice cases in Georgia can also arise from neglecting the administration of an estate. There is no shortage of situations in which legal malpractice can and does occur, and it can have a life changing impact on the client.
When legal malpractice occurs, the injured party is often left vulnerable and with nowhere to turn. A group of individuals who understand this vulnerability and fight for equality and justice, is the International Federation Of Women Lawyers otherwise known as FIDA. FIDA Cameroon fights against the circumstances that lead to legal malpractice, and thus fights for social justice on behalf of the most vulnerable groups, such as women and young girls.
FIDA, Cameroon has been able to accomplish this through the implementation of legal education programs within the community, and has teamed up with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to increase awareness regarding the exploitation of children in Africa. These groups have been able to increase awareness related to children’s rights through the development of an advocacy tool kit called “The Child and Youth Advocacy Toolbox”. The advocacy toolbox is designed to develop strategies and build capacities of individuals, which leads to the awareness that is so desperately needed.
FIDA Cameroon has also increased awareness regarding parental responsibility in Nigeria, alongside the Federation of International Female Lawyers Nigeria as well. The organization monitors and documents child abuses relating to violence, discrimination, and exploitation as well. Though there have been many successes, these organizations believe there is always more to be done. They conduct regular stakeholder events and develop other useful tools via meetings and events that create awareness relating to gender violence and the rights of women and children.
The FIDA’s also: The aforementioned efforts have contributed to creating a more stable society, and increased knowledge related to legal protections for the marginalized and vulnerable groups. The fact that members of these groups have been able to recover from having bare minimum knowledge about their rights and protections by the law, to being empowered and knowing what actions to take when violated, is considered a success.
It is important for not only these organizations and groups to exist, but for all people to be educated on these issues as well. This will help prevent legal malpractice before it happens. Unfortunately, many of us do not realize how much we need legal aid until it is too late. Once we do, we realize the importance of understanding how to protect our interests, and what to do when the unforeseen occurs.
From an advocate standpoint, there is nothing more beautiful than seeing a previously marginalized and vulnerable group, become empowered and created a safer society. If we can decrease legal malpractice globally, there is hope that we can do the same with many other actions that lead to social injustices, which is why we must continue to fight. Legal malpractice is just one of several matters that FIDA aims to assist with, and they have made sure to do just that.
